Why are my students getting submission errors?
There are several reasons your student might see submission errors; some are Terracotta-related, and some are not. If you’re looking for info on the Whitelabel Error (usually an easy one to remedy), please see this article White Label Error.
Token expiration
If your assignment links students to Qualtrics, jsPsych, or another custom web object, they might see the error below. The most common reason for this is an expired token.
What happened?
In order to link the student from the LMS to the external website, Terracotta creates a connection, and after a set amount of time (far longer than it would take to do a homework assignment), for security reasons, the token expires. So, for example, if a student were to open the assignment in the LMS, look at it, let the computer go to sleep, and maybe go back to the assignment the following day, the token will have expired. In that case the student will see the error.
What can you do to prevent this?
Direct your students to be sure to complete assignments within one sitting, or, at the very least, within a single 24-hour period.
If you would like your student to have the opportunity to resubmit the assignment, please write us at support@terracotta.education.
