Getting started in Brightspace

Getting started in Brightspace

Begin by setting up Terracotta in your course. To do this, navigate to the course where you want to use Terracotta, and then to its content area.

Create a new module, perhaps named Terracotta, and make it invisible to students (students interact with Terracotta assignments the same way they interact with other Brightspace assignments, so they don’t need to see this module).

Select the module and click Existing Activities; select External Learning Tools from the dropdown menu. Scroll to the bottom of the window, then click Create New LTI Link. Enter a title; we suggest including Terracotta in the name to make it easy to find.

Now enter the LTI URL:

When you click away from the LTI URL text box, the Tool dropdown should populate with Terracotta. Click Create and Insert, and you should see the link you created.

Click the link to open Terracotta for the first time, and you should see this screen:

The first time you open Terracotta, you will need to grant Brightspace access. Follow the prompts on the screen.

From here, you’ll create or import an experiment. Follow the https://www.terracotta.education/help-center/quick-start-guide for guidance, and also see Terracotta Tabs for a description of the tool’s different parts.

When you create an assignment through Terracotta, it also creates a grade book item associated with that assignment. Be sure to check its settings. See this article for more information: Adjusting your grade book item (Brightspace).
