How to Merge Qualtrics Data and Terracotta Data

If you followed the instructions in the Qualtrics Integration Guide, you added a data field called “anonymous_id.” That field will allow you to merge your Terracotta data and your Qualtrics data.

Begin by exporting and downloading your Qualtrics data from your Qualtrics survey, and your Terracotta data from your Terracotta experiment.

In the Qualtrics data (likely in the righthand-most column), you’ll find the header “anonymous_id.” This is the data field you embedded in your survey flow, and which prompted Qualtrics to grab the field from Terracotta:

Now, open the participants.csv from your Terracotta data export, and you’ll see participant id’s for all participants who took the survey.

In this example, four participants took the survey, and four participants show as part of the study. In situations in which not all students in the class are participating in the study, you will have responses within the Qualtrics data that don’t correspond to id’s in your Terracotta data. That’s ok (and even expected). You just won’t include the non-participant responses in your study data.
