How does Informed Consent work in Terracotta?
When you’re setting up an experiment, you’ll have the option of inviting students to participate in your experiment in the Participation section (check out this article on all participation types). If you choose this option, Terracotta will create an informed consent assignment and add it to your Canvas site (you’ll still have to publish the assignment).
A few features of the Informed Consent assignment:
Students who complete the assignment receive credit for having completed it, regardless of their responses.
Teachers cannot see students' responses; they can only see if the student received credit.
Students see the Informed Consent PDF in their browser windows above the participation question.
After they submit, if they return to the assignment, students will see a banner at the top of the screen with their response and its timestamp.
Students can revoke consent at any point while the assignment is open. If a student declines to participate, they cannot change a “no” to a “yes.”
If a student does not submit the informed consent assignment, that student will receive the default condition (as designated by the teacher) and the student’s data will not be included in the data export.
