Moving your Terracotta experiment to another course site

Moving your Terracotta experiment to another course site

Maybe you want to run your Terracotta experiment in multiple course sites, or maybe you want to move your experiment to your new course site. Rather than just copying your Canvas course, first export the experiment and then import it into the new course.

Exporting your experiment

Begin by opening the Terracotta experiment you’d like to export, and then click Export Experiment.

First, you’ll see a message that warns you that it could take a few minutes to prepare your experiment for download. When it’s ready, you’ll see this green message, and then you can click to add the zip file to your downloads.

Importing your experiment

Once you’ve downloaded your experiment zip file, open your new Canvas course, and then open Terracotta within that course. At the top of your screen, you’ll see the Import Experiment button.

After you click Import Experiment, a window will open that allows you to browse for the file you’d like to upload (its title will be something like Terracotta_experiment_export_experimenttitle_(date)). Choose your file, and click Import.

If the import is successful, you’ll see the message below, which notes that your new experiment has (Imported) appended to the title.

You can change the title of your experiment by opening the experiment and editing its title. Don’t forget to check that all relevant assignments appear in your Canvas course assignments, and publish them as usual. Terracotta will take care of recreating them.
